Shapez 2 has a storage for fluids but not a storage for shapez. This would be useful in use with wires and a more robust MAM system. Also would provide some “Declutter” from stockpiling on belts and such.
Awesome idea. I support this.

Needs to have an overflow functionality so we can prevent lanes from being stuck

It could be practically the same as in shapez, so it can function as a way to prioritise one lane above another, too.
You can do storage already with trains and loading/unloading decks

You can’t possibly be serious. Storing batches of shapes, which you can’t access until a (huge) batch is complete, and also need to build a whole locomotive setup to access, you can’t possibly think that’s equivalent to “a building that you can drop-in place on your belt line to store shapes if they back up & use them later”.
Honestly, the best thing I can come up with is to just fill a platform with a bunch of belts that keep their items. Maybe put a balancer in front and behind, and a priority splitter in front so a full storage redirects its inputs to a fallback. This is pretty big and costly, and can only store around 1176-1944 shapes per platform (larger platforms without bottlenecks inbetween have marginally more space). Obviously a dedicated building should do all this for significantly smaller size, and likely have A LOT more capacity.

+1 on this, I’d even be happy with this being a large platform (with large platform cost) where you can belt items in and configure outputs so you can choose what comes out where.
Or you could have variations on this where item in one side will come out on same slot on the opposite side or something.
It would be super useful to have centralised, localised storage of shapes (and even colours!), especially toward mid to late game.

I think that the “packages/containers” used by the trains can make an effective storage unit and also be use to trans port shapes … theres also lots of other tings that can be done in that reguared
some what to get the package on a platform and then dock it with a loader unloader … a way to transport handle the package/container without unloading them. and maybe a large transport vessel / ship like IRL intermodle Container ships (moves slower thatn a train but carries lots more packages)
This isn’t just for MAMs, and it would be useful to have at the machine scale rather than (as well as?) platform scale. When you design a system that splits shapes, does stuff to the parts, and then recombines them, and the two halves have different path lengths, it can be a challenge to get it to run smoothly rather than stopping/starting. Being able to add a store / buffer in a strategic spot would solve this.
Totaly behind this! In shapez 1 tanks were a staple for overflow control so buildings didnt get gummed up if the shaped productuon was off balance. It would just buffer the line untill the other line caught up. THEEEN if the tank got full, dump to trash. As it is now the trash is the only way to do this but that permanently
reduces line volume. Please bring in an overflow tank for shapes like shapez 1

Don’t understand at all why this gets shot down by the devs? Paint storage = good; shape storage = bad. I must be missing something?

Really I think that there should be a way to move shapes in a Container like the trains do instead of just having a loader for the train you could have a way to use that same “Container” on a platform to hold shapes
I wrote several items about this … it solves the shape storage issues and also several other issues - this would mean a different sort of Loader/Unloader that unloads the container itself {a better replacement with a similar idea of the shapez storage system }
Kinda disappointed this is rejected

I wish the DEV Team would explain why they don’t want Shape storage but do have Fluid storage. Also Why can’t you get rid of Fluid some how like you can trash shapes but not fluids
