Multiplayer / Co-Op#190

S

Now I know this one seems out there. But please, just give it a thought. Not public online, that would be awful. But just private (invite only) online, could be really cool I think. I do see how this can be a little problematic, in the sense that you would be basically doubling your productivity. So maybe have this as a sperate option than single player, and then maybe make it so that everything is 50% speed, or something like that, so that play time stays about the same. I think having an option to cooperate with a friend would resonate with a lot of people, myself included.

Strong agree; playing Factorio, Satisfactory, Mindustry cooperatively with friends is an enjoyable collaborative experience. Honestly, no need to keep it “fair” – could just disable achievements with multiple people in the game if worried about build speed.

Strong agree as well, just disable achievements if you’re afraid of higher productivity (don’t slow the game), it would just be awesome to be able to play with some friends on the same world (I’d say the same for shapez1, but it’s too late 😂)

Multiplayer is a must have in this game if you ask me. That would enable the full potential of this game.

Really hard to add this, so we are considering this but it’s unlikely to happen in early access

“Co-op | Play with friends online with a game code” (suggested by Aiden on 2023-07-15), including upvotes (5) and comments (0), was merged into this suggestion.

Ah, no multiplayer! Well, that’s another single player game that will set on my shelf and probably not get played because I’ll be too busy playing multiplayer games with all of my friends!

slime rancher 1 had a mod that enabled co-op

maybe you could open the path to users create their own mod in this way and let things happen.

the comunnity did a better job than the developers, for free

That’s a pretty ignorant take. Writing a mod that just needs to work is completely different from writing production code… x_x modders can ship spaghetti that is barely maintanable, but developers have to maintain, scale, and support that code for years to come.

I would realy love if you looked at the Option again. To me it would subjectivly AND objectivly make the game more succsesfull.

  1. subjectiv - i realy enjoy playing with my friends, so much so that it doesnt realy matter if the game is the best out there or just mid. the enjoyment you get by doing things together can offset the “monotomy” of factory games. dont get me wrong, that monotomy isnt smth bad, but it can get repetitive fairly quickly. the only goal you have right now is to unlock everything. i see you have a ladder but tbh i dont think factory gamers are the competive kind, meaning for most that wont be a driving factor in the long run. playing with friends breaks up the loop and give replayablity without adding content. it helps to stay engaged with the game and help not forget the game. while what eviltek said is rude, its the sad truth. while i will go back and play factorio or satisfactorio with my dudes, i probably wont come back to this game. not because its lacking or worse, but just because id rather repeat with friends instead of alone. i realy dont think you made a bad game, realy i dont, buuuut…friends ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  2. Objective - Now to the more important point: i believe you can make more money with the implementation of a multiplayer than with the addition of content. I want to point to “Riftbreaker”. honestly it was the carbon copy of your story. a realy good game, good concept, propper execution, nice graphics and gameplay that felt like it had purpose. but just like yours, it had no multiplayer when it launched. And even tho it was a good game, because of the nature of todays market it got forgeten nearly instantly. in just three months it lost 90% of their players. over their livespan they released a view updates, which gave them a small boost, but nothing that sticked. that was UNTIL they released their multiplayer. The numbers exploded, getting to the point of release. its fair to say the multiplayer was the most important thing they added to their game.
And they had the same stance as you right now: its to difficult, its not worth, we dont want. and yet its safe to assume they made more money with that than with all the content they made till that point.

i truly like what you are doing and your story as a hole with your first game. its a picture perfect way of how one should start making games and then develop from there. and while sure there are selfish reasons why i am writing this (i realy wanna play with my m8s) i too want you to be succsesfull. Like i said, i dont know what goes into making a mp work, but i dont think its impossible for you guys nor will it be a waste of time and money.

i realy hope you guys are doing well and wish you all the best.

Shame this isn’t planned. Perhaps modding can make it a thing? Would love to play this with the same group I play Satisfactory and Factorio with.

Would love to see that, we choosed to play factorio instead because it wasn’t possible, even if we all prefer shapez.
Please give it a thought even if we have to host the game servers.

I think now with 1.0 out, it could be reasonable to consider it again for a 1.1 update
