Trains waiting at stations#2135

Currently increasing train capacity typically is a negative impact due to the inability to control trains. Assuming you have maxed out belt speed each capacity upgrade slows down the time it takes to fill a train without increasing actual throughput. At lvl 1 capactiy is 360 shapes and will fill in 30 seconds. At lvl 5 capacity is 1080 shapes and will fill in 90 seconds. I can just keep it at lvl 1 with 3 trains and ship 1080 units in the same 90 seconds. This will result in a higher through put as I am less likely to missmatch train travel time with loader time causing fewer empty trains. As adjusting belt speeds would have a much wider impact I suggest altering train logic to wait at loaders until full. The alternative would be to add a drop down menu on the loader to set it’s cargo size. This would allow you to set up small quick filling packs for shorter runs and large packs for long routes

Alternative way of achieving similar result but with continuity to how we do it on smaller scale: give rails interface with wires, like belts have.

  • Add train stop with 2 output paths and wire input. If wire sends in 1 it will go forward, if 0 it will go to the side, just like belt filter
  • Add a Rail Monitor rail piece that outputs signal of the shape and load count (1/2/3) of the wagon that stays on top of it
  • Give us ability to use all logic buildings for it. Easiest way for that is to make previous 2 platforms like Shape Miners so they have tiny small-scale area within them where you can obtain (or input) signals

This preserves vibe of the game and allows to do crazy stuff with trains: divert empty trains back, sort where trains go based on their content e.t.c

Increased train capacity allows you to use less trains == less platform point and less clugging. Thanks to statin’s buffers, here are no negative consequences for a train to depart without cargo from time to time.

For far stops, I just use 1+8 instead of 1+4 trains. I add two stops, shifted by (stop+3rails+stop for loading and unloading). It keeps trains simple but take all boxes. I even used 1+16 then realized that the station can buffer 3 boxes, so 1+12 makes sense maybe, but 1+16 is not…
