Trash works on all layers#266

C

The trash is essentially just a big hole, and you can’t place one on a higher layer (at least right now). I think it would be interesting to keep the trash as a 1st-layer building, but allow any layer to use it by just having an open conveyor belt facing the trash on a higher layer. Pic attached shows a situation in which this would function. The second layer would just drop the shape into the trash on the first layer. This would of course not stop you from just placing a conveyor belt on the second layer above the trash and moving shapes over it instead.

Items from the 1st floor fall off the belt into an endless void but items from the 2nd and 3rd floors can’t fall off the belt? “Items must be carefully lowered before dropped.” This is absurd!

@tobspr Games
If you close a suggestion, please drop a sentence or two what you think about it or why. That would be cool - thanks!

Sure, sorry! So right now, it’s a mix of technical limitations that would make it very hard to add, and gameplay reasons - basically the thought process is that if you can only trash on the lower floor, you need to get more creative how to trash or reuse your shapes on the 2nd floor

Can you elaborate why you changed your mind?

The chute idea seems the most fitting one in my opinion. So, trash (or a separate building) can be placed on upper leves, but only if there’s trash below it.

If you’re merging like tickets, here is another about trash chutes: #2343

there are lots of trash from upper layers is allways depreciated due to game mechanics at the very least

I spent a long time debugging my overflow splitter to figure out why the unwanted outputs from higher floors wasn’t going into the trash on the lowest floor. Even if this is not done, it would help for the game to at least show a warning in this case, to say “this doesn’t do what you might be trying to do”.

we need those chutes! (ideally solved as trash on higher levels), because there’s some beginner tip from the current “Tips & Tricks to get started”

“Is your production line not producing enough? Just copy it and stack another two on top for triple the production!”

Which essentially DOES NOT WORK if you can’t even place the paste on the higher layer…

So while “Trash only on floor level” indeed increases difficulty, it also breaks the primary assumption that you can copy-paste/mirror to other layers.

What about chutes that only work on higher floors if it has another trash chute right below it?
So you can stack identical & well thought out platforms on top of each other.
Idk if this has been proposed yet, oh well.
