My suggestion is to have the operator level grant a point multiplier along with a reduction in points granted, maybe halved. This would meant that as you leveled up tasks would scale in value along with you.
Once you get to level 20, which is fairly simple, the research point throughput for milestones dwarfs the task rewards. This results in tasks feeling like a poor use of time, both for the point gain (time spent not working on that next milestone shape), and knowing you’ll likely delete it all.
I only have about 50 hours in the game so far, but I was accumulating 30 research points across the 3 milestones I was producing. These added up VERY fast, and it made me want to focus on the next milestone. When I looked at my tasks and saw I could set up a shape that would require trains, painting, etc, for 2 points…. it just didn’t excite me. I eventually stopped doing tasks at all.
