Approaching a MAM, I break down shape requirements into layer, quad, color, etc., and broadcast each on a channel. A 5-layer piece has a lot of information that could be put into an organized numbering system. If each layer starts at a multiple of, say 100, then putting a channel number into each transmitter could be automated by adding a number to the base, instead of hard-coding numbers into each transmitter. Right now, this is a slow and painful process which could be automated, but creating an adder + decoder + encoder seems a stretch and something that should be built-in.
